Patients recovering in the PACU can experience a myriad of problems that need to be recognized and managed by the bedside nurse to ensure prompt care and avoid preventable harm or a failure to rescue situation. This session will present how to prepare for, recognize, and manage a multitude of urgent clinical situations in the PACU.

Postop nausea and vomiting (PONV) occurs in up to 30% of perioperative patients.  With known risk factors, the rate can go up to 80%.  Understanding the pathophysiology of PONV and implementing a multi-modal treatment plan, including aromatherapy, is essential in caring for our patients.
