Pediatric Postoperative Pain Assessment (1.25 DC)

Assessment and management of pain in children can be difficult, especially in the post-operative period. The purposes of this presentation are to give an overview of pain assessment in postoperative pediatric patients to include evidence based developmentally appropriate pain assessment tools to include the use of a functional ability assessment tool, factors that can affect the perception of pain and its assessment post-operatively, and, based on pain assessment, determine realistic goals for pain management with pediatric patients and their families.
