Dr. O’Brien is a perianesthesia clinical nurse specialist consultant, recently retired from Michigan Medicine – University of Michigan, where she provided clinical support for the perianesthesia care units. She graduated with a BSN from the University of Michigan School of Nursing and received her MSN and DNP from Madonna University. Dr. O’Brien has been active in ASPAN since its formation, serving on numerous committees and as President in 1994-1995. She is a past editor of the Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing.
Dr. O’Brien has written numerous articles and book chapters, co-edited ASPAN’s Certification Review for Perianesthesia Nursing, and lectures on perianesthesia nursing topics nationally and internationally. She is an avid knitter and a mother to 2 adult children, and proud grandmother of Evan, who is 13, a world traveler, and the best grandson ever!
