#308 Extending Hospital Wide Disaster Preparedness to Include Perianesthesia

Emergency preparedness drills, mastered and perfected in the emergency room setting, typically end with declaring, “Patient sent to the OR.” This presentation discusses the extension of disaster preparedness into the perioperative departments, preparing nurses all the way through patient discharge to successfully manage a variety of disaster scenarios. Innovative learning techniques, including gamification, are employed to engage perioperative nurses in interactive, scenario-based training that enhances critical thinking, decision-making skills, and retention of disaster preparedness protocols.
