The pregnant patient presents with challenges both physical and psychosocial since surgery itself is scary when not pregnant, the added stress of carrying a fetus brings many unknowns. This population is low volume with high risk whereas, the perianesthesia nurse may have limited knowledge and/or experience with this special population.
